1963.2.12 - Collided Western Scheldt with the Swedish M / S AVAFORS, while she was traveling from Antwerp to Jacksonville with a cargo of potash and sulphate. The ships were stuck together and blocked river. Later they released apart and ALCA ran aground with rooms filled with water and the port side aft badly damaged. It caught fire on board and two crew members were injured. The fire was extinguished after three hours, but the next day she broke in two at low tide. The crew left the ship was declared a total loss. After another collision in the river 25/02 led to the oil spill that she caught fire again and salvage people had to abandon ship.
