Ångfartygs AB Bore was founded 1897 by businesmen from Turku, amongst them Frederic Rettig to open regular passenger line from Turku to Stockholm. Later passengers were carried also from other ports and the company participated with cruiser business. Bore was a parent company of Silja Line with Suomen höyrylaiva Oy and Swedish Svea. Bore was operating passenger ships until 1980.

At first Bore had subsidiaries for cargo traffic. One of the first was 1905 founded Ångfartygs Aktiebolaget Transito run by Bore's manager Harry Wilén. Bore started cargo traffic Turku - Lübeck 1920. Bore was a member of Finland South America Line (AL) 1927 - 1965.

Ångfartygs Aktiebolaget Transito was merged with Bore 1924. The ships were: PORTHAN, PEHR BRAHE, FINLAND, TAMMERFORS, GOOLE TRADER, FINLAND TRADER, P. THORVÖST, NORDSTJERNAN. The predecessor of Transito was Ångfartygs Ab Poseidon, manager Alvar Söderlund

Ab Mare was founded in Turku in the year 1932 by Ångfartygs Ab Bore and Kymi Oy. The company owned steamers MYLLYKOSKI, KARHULA and INGEROIS. Mare was bought by R. Nordström in april 1941 and merged with Lovisa Rederi 1951.
